According to the Google Partners webpage, anyone can join Google Partners, but only trusted agencies can earn Google’s seal of approval. “The Google Partner badge means that we trust you, and your clients should, too,” according to the website. “It shows your business is healthy, your clients are happy, and that you follow Google best practices.” Achieving Partner status takes advanced knowledge of AdWords (plus certification), implementation of Google’s best practices in client accounts and a healthy amount of activity across a company’s managed accounts.

In order to be certified in AdWords, an agency needs at least one of its affiliated members to pass Google Partners’ Fundamentals exam and one of two advanced exams—either the Advanced Search or Advanced Display exam. To fulfill Google Partners’ Best Practices requirements, agencies must show that they’ve mastered the essentials covered in the Google certification exams and that they are maximizing their clients’ campaign performance.
